No Endorsement for Bibi
By Jim Fletcher
“We” have two more years of relatively pro-Israel feeling in the White House. Donald Trump obviously has two more years in office. Unless Marco Rubio becomes president, I think all other candidates are suspect in that regard. Even Trump in the last year has sent uneven messages about his views of the Jewish state.
Trump has done many good things for Israel, things other presidents not only wouldn’t have considered, but they in fact intentionally harmed Israel. Think Obama or the illegitimate Biden. These years make us pro-Israel types nervous and anxious. (Although we should remember to trust God and His Word on the ending.)
Trump has recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. He moved the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which was huge. The refusal of all other American presidents—who lied and said they would move it but didn’t—is documented. They all claimed they would while they were running for reelection, then revealed themselves to be liars once in office.
Trump also has joined Israel in striking the worst actors in the region, including Iran. As we now see that people like George W. Bush were not what they appeared to be, it’s clear that Israel has been on her own more than once, which of course is where Scripture tells us they will end up.
But President Trump also handcuffed Israel last summer in their bid to finish-off a reeling Iran. He has made terrible statements about Benjamin Netanyahu publicly. He has publicly endorsed terrorist dictators like Turkey’s Erdogan and Syria’s equally grotesque character, Ahmed al-Sharaa. Inexplicably, he calls Erdogan his friend and a real prince of a human. That human excrement has threatened Israel in public for years.
Trump as it turns out is a pragmatist and not an ideologue. In other words, he doesn’t have bedrock principles when it comes to Israel. He does what he is told is in America’s best interests. With anti-Israel types embedded in American government these last 80 years, the truth is that support for Israel in high places could evaporate overnight. At least since LBJ, White House advisors are mostly lethal enemies of Israel.
This week, the political opportunist J.D. Vance said he would not endorse Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s national elections (something Trump did do) and it’s not surprising, but infuriatingly annoying. A headline from The Jerusalem Post:
“Vance says he’s done endorsing foreign candidates, standing by decision not to join Trump in backing Netanyahu”
Vance is long known to be a good friend of the Jew-hater, Tucker Carlson. His demeanor toward Israel is much more like Al Gore than…well, let me think of a true supporter in Washington politics.
“I’m not attacking Bibi Netanyahu. I’m not endorsing Bibi Netanyahu. I think the president’s endorsement is ultimately what matters, and the president is going to make the decision about how he doles out that endorsement according to his preferences.”
Vance is absolutely not trustworthy when it comes to Israel.
“I’m not attacking Bibi Netanyahu. I’m not endorsing Bibi Netanyahu. I think the president’s endorsement is ultimately what matters, and the president is going to make the decision about how he doles out that endorsement according to his preferences.”
Remember, the vice president criticized Trump mightily 10 years ago then miraculously began supporting him when it became clear he was a candidate to be on the ticket in 2024. Allegedly, his friendship with Donald Trump Jr. got him in good with the boss. Trump Jr. too is a buddy of people like Carlson. And Carlson’s heated anti-Israel views are heavily documented.
We cannot at all put our trust in professional politicians. They all lie. Our task is to continue praying for Israel and to support them as we can.
The “principles” of our political leaders are a soggy mess.
God is watching.
