NewsWatch: Appeasing Israel's Enemy—Bill Koenig

November 5, 2001

Coalition from H-LL

The desire of the United States to create a coalition with the very same Arab nations who are attempting to eliminate Israel and who call the Christians “infidels” is unconscionable. We must understand that we can't appease radical Islam.

It appears at this time in history that the Administration of President George W. Bush has a greater fear and concern about terrorism on our own soil and the availability of Middle East oil, than about the supernatural consequences of directly coming against God’s covenant land and His people.

However, these consequences, in the form of dire warnings and subsequently even worse events, are bound to manifest in God’s economy.

The first signs of God’s rebuke took place on September 11, as the Bush Administration—with the help of the United States State Department—was completing a comprehensive Mideast peace plan, based on giving up Israel’s land for peace, that was to be submitted to the United Nations.

Then on October 2, as President Bush stated that he favored a Palestinian state, the first anthrax case was revealed in Florida, and the anthrax threat has plagued the government and the media increasingly and continually since then.

The Bush Administration continues to rely on the “we are good, and they are evil” theme while helping to push God’s covenant land and His chosen people of Israel into greater danger with each passing week. We heard today that the Israeli government has never experienced the kind of pressure they are now. What is more sinful in God’s eyes? Look at what continues to happen to us in the United States.

Consider the havoc that three or so envelopes with Anthrax have caused, with the United States government paying the greatest price. Can you imagine what an extensive interruption in mail service would do to the already staggering U.S. economy?

(Note of interest: The U.S. Postal Service, which has experienced the brunt of the anthrax events, began offering a stamp honoring Islam ten days before the WTC/Pentagon terror events and has no plans to stop the offering. The Post Office said 76 million EID stamps have been printed, compared with 65 million for the Hanukkah stamp.)

Why are we siding with the enemy?

The Bush Administration is expected to come out publicly this week (possibly November 10, at the United Nations), or shortly thereafter, in favor of a Palestinian state.

According to an article in the Financial Times, the Bush administration is preparing to make a fresh policy statement on the Middle East, one that is anticipated to underline its commitment to the creation of “a viable Palestinian state.”

Details of the new Middle East blueprint, which will build on the President's “vision” of a Palestinian state, are still being debated within the administration. At this writing, the Arab states and Israel are all trying hard to influence the outcome.

In the context of the ongoing Middle East negotiations, the word "viable" is generally understood to mean that the Palestinian state would have sufficient geographical, economic, and political integrity to stand on its own.

The statement, which is likely to be made by Secretary of State Colin Powell, is not likely to include solutions for the final status of Jerusalem and the return of Palestinian refugees.

On the other hand...

Most Americans believe that pressure on Israel to make concessions to the Palestinians would only encourage more terrorism, according to a new survey conducted by the New American Initiative and The Chicago Sun Times, as reported by The Jerusalem Post in an article written by Herb Keinon.

In the national poll, carried out between October 12-14 by McLaughlin and Associates, 62 percent said that forcing Israel to give up territory—including the division of Jerusalem—to Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat for a Palestinian state, would encourage terrorism. Twenty-eight percent had no opinion, and 9.7 percent thought that pressuring Israel would end terrorism.

The poll, which has a 3.1 percent margin of error, also indicated continued strong support for Israel. Asked if the United States “should continue support of Israel,” some 80 percent said yes, and 14.6 percent said no.

President Bush and His Faith

In the Fox News interview on Sunday, (Click here for the article.) the President was quoted as saying: "I start with being on bended knee every morning. Seriously." He also told the interviewer that he prays in the Oval Office and reads the Bible every day.

Perhaps, opined the interviewer, that's why he sees the war on terror in biblical terms of good versus evil. Bush often refers to Osama bin Laden, the suspected terrorist blamed for the attacks, as the "evil one" and his Al Qaeda network as "evildoers."

American presidents have often turned to God, and President Bush has never been shy about his faith. “That’s where he gets his comfort. That’s where he gets his balance. That’s where he gets his perspective," said Bush friend and Commerce Secretary, Don Evans.

In a CNN interview, also on Sunday, Evans stated that the President believes that he has been raised up for this very moment. He has great faith, and he believes that good will prevail over evil.

It is evident that the President sincerely does believe he was called for a time like this, and he has heard that from many. He has a sense that the forces of good will triumph over evil and that his own Christian faith will get him through this battle. He has been called a Cyrus and/or a King Hezekiah by some in the charismatic camp.

All of this sounds great, but if the President misses the significance of respecting and honoring God's covenant land, there will be major repercussions. In other words, President Bush's success will be dependent upon his position regarding Israel and how the Lord subsequently responds.

Yes, good will prevail, but not for America if this country comes against God's covenant land and sides, in coalition, with Arab nations, whose stated mission is the elimination of “the Zionist state,” Israel.

Replacement Theology and its Impact

Who is to blame for influencing the President's position regarding Israel's land?

The main blame could very well be with those church affiliations to which he and his staff belong. These include the Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopalian, and Roman Catholic denominations. The Presbyterians and the Methodists were among the signers of letters to Secretary of State Powell and President Bush calling for Israel to leave the “occupied land,” even threatening boycotts of goods made in the territories. ( Click here to see the letters.)

These denominations believe that they, as “the church,” have replaced Israel, rather being grafted in, as the Holy Bible clearly explains in the Letter of Paul to the Romans (Chapter 11).

On February 14, 2000, the Vatican signed a joint document calling for Jerusalem to be split between the Muslims, the Christians, and the Jews. Pope John Paul II signed an agreement with the terrorist, Yasser Arafat, over the sacred land of Jerusalem. The Vatican continues to drool over Jerusalem, while attempting to use its size and clout in an attempt to force Israel to go along with them. It is obvious that the Vatican also doesn’t fully realize that they are about to come into direct conflict with the God of Israel.

This is in no way a personal attack on any one individual, but these denominations and their un-Biblical theology are putting Israel, the “apple of God’s eye,” and our own nation at risk and are impacting every citizen of our two countries and many others around the world.

Simple Solution: Stand by Israel

At some point, the Bush Administration will have to realize that they are also coming into direct conflict with Almighty God. Hopefully, that point won’t happen too late for our country. We must continue to pray. The good news is that this scenario is providing Christians with the greatest evangelism opportunity in history.

The oft-repeated Administration theme of “we are resilient; we are good; the enemy is evil; and we are resourceful” is the mantra of the moment. The White House has even contacted Hollywood to help with the patriotism push.

Now, isn’t it an irony that the Bush Administration won't fully side with Israel, and yet they have decided to team with radical Muslim states and with Hollywood? Something is not right here. The President is getting some bad advice, and unless it changes soon, the consequences are going to become very costly for all of us in the future.

If President Bush only knew and understood that becoming a coalition partner with Israel would help America solve many of her problems. Until our nation’s leadership fully comprehends this simple but significant truth, our status among the nations and in the world will continue to deteriorate. We must stand by Israel 100 percent!

As I have commented many times before, the world is standing by the Arab (Moslem) nations, and the Lord is standing by Israel. Anyone who loves the Lord and abides in God’s Word knows where the loyalties of the United States need to be.

The war that has begun in the Middle East is intensifying. The Moslems make no effort to hide their goal of eliminating the Jews and then the Christians. The descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and those saved by the Cross of our Savior Jesus Christ have become the “infidels”—their targets.

"Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 12:1-3, KJV)

Please join us in regular and fervent prayer for President Bush, his family, his staff, and this Nation’s leaders at this crucial time when decisions will be made about God’s promised land and His chosen people.
